More than 40 million Americans have a condition that impairs mobility. A highly trained rehabilitation science workforce is fundamentally important to advancing treatments and improving the lives of our citizens. The Career Advancement and Development in Rehabilitation Research Program (CADRRE) will increase the number of rigorously trained investigators who will advance rehabilitation science and contribute to the knowledge needed to support evidence-based rehabilitation practice. CADRRE scholars are junior faculty members who will be part of a national training network, anchored by the University of Florida (UF) and the University of Southern California (USC). However, our NIH funded program extends well beyond UF and USC. CADRRE includes 16 partner institutions around the United States who will participate in career development opportunities for their occupational and physical therapy faculty.
Since 2013, UF and USC have partnered to advance excellence in rehabilitation research through their joint K12 program. This longstanding alliance brings together nationally recognized strengths in occupational and physical therapy, including proven PhD programs in Rehabilitation Sciences, a robust culture of interdisciplinary research, and an established record of successful mentorship and federal funding. Both UF and USC are key partners in Clinical Science Translational Awards (CTSA) programs, integrating CADRRE leadership and training with these nationally recognized translational science resources. K12 Scholars have the unique opportunity to participate in large, NIH-funded, multi-site clinical trials across a variety of conditions—including muscular dystrophies, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, shoulder tendinopathy, and gene therapy studies.
